How I lead
I do not believe in sales leadership as a control function. A forecast that is merely collected is a number without insight. Leadership gets interesting at the point where somebody loses a deal and you work out together why, without turning that into a procedure.
A no without an alternative is not leadership, it is administration. On the finish line salespeople do not need control, they need creative support. And whoever is meant to give it has to be allowed to decide. Anyone who first has to escalate three levels up arrives too late.
People develop when you trust them with something one size too big and stand next to them. Two of my current managers came about exactly that way. That is the part of this work that carries me the longest, and honestly more than any revenue figure.
And I like to build. Tools, processes, segments. I did not write my master's thesis on the transformation of B2B software sales in order to hand it in, but in order to apply it the Monday after.
